Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines Memorial Scholarship
Currently registered Girl Scout Seniors who have graduated from high school in May/June 2008 and will be attending an accredited institution of higher education can apply for the Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is to promote further education for graduating Girl Scout Seniors. Deadline is July 15, 2008. Memorial Scholarship
Jane S. Barringer Award
Girl Scout Gold Award recipients are eligible to apply for the Jane S. Barringer Award. This award is a $750 cash scholarship established to honor Mrs. Barringer, an outstanding teen advisor. A group of her former Girl Scouts, along with the council, has instituted an award in her name to be given to an individual who embodies the principles and spirit Mrs. B works to instill.
Award criteria state that the applicant must:
- Be a currently registered Girl Scout in Girl Scouts - North Carolina Coastal Pines
- Have earned the Girl Scout Gold Award or its equivalent (First Class, Curved Bar, Golden Eagle)
- Show evidence of academic and/or professional achievement
- Exhibit how she incorporates the Girl Scout Promise and Law into every aspect of her life
- Have a concrete plan for how the award money will be used to further education or skill development
One award is given each year and is presented at the Annual Meeting in March.
Rising Star Scholarships sponsored by ShillerMath and the Girl Scouts of the USA
Do you know a math-minded girl? ShillerMath is offering college scholarships for Girl Scouts studying math. ShillerMath and the Girl Scouts share a common agenda: for girls to learn and love math. Together we are working to acknowledge outstanding performance and potential in math and the sciences by Girl Scouts, by awarding four scholarships and six runner-up prizes each year for the five years (2005 through 2009). Progress Energy Scholarship
All graduating high school seniors are eligible to apply for Progress Energy’s Power Careers Program. This program provides students an introduction to the business of power plant operations, financial support for students while completing a two year Associate Degree in Electrical Electronics Technology, Industrial System Technology, or Electric Power Production Technology, and may ultimately provide a career opportunity with Progress Energy. Students must complete a series of application forms, participate in a formal interview process, have a 3.2 G.P.A., and clear all background reviews. The Corinne Jeannine Schillings Foundation Scholarship to Study a Foreign Language and Grant for Study Abroad
The Corinne Jeannine Schillings Foundation is dedicated to preserving the memory of Corinne Schillings, a 26 year-old woman who lost her life in the Baltimore Water Taxi accident on March 6, 2004. Corinne was a Silver Award Girl Scout and a 1999 graduate of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. Corinne received her undergraduate degree in foreign languages, majoring in Italian; she also studied Spanish, French, and Portuguese. She spent two semesters studying in Italy, first in Florence and then Milan. During her study abroad in Florence, Corinne met her soon to be fiancé Andrew Roccella, who also died in the accident. Corinne believed strongly in higher education for women and in learning about various cultures through language.
The Foundation will award scholarships and grants to deserving young women who reflect Corinne’s aspirations, values, and enthusiasm for life.

Scholarship: The Foundation will award scholarships to deserving young women who have earned the Girl Scout Gold or Silver Award and who plan to or are currently pursuing a college major or minor in foreign language. This scholarship IS renewable.

Grant: The Foundation will provide airfare for a Silver or Gold Award Girl Scout who plans to study abroad, regardless of her major/minor. It is not necessary to be a scholarship recipient to apply for this one-time grant; nor are scholarship recipients excluded from applying. This grant is NOT renewable.

Prudential Spirit of Community Award
The Prudential Spirit of Community Award is based on volunteer work in the community. Middle school and high school level teens that use their free time to volunteer in their communities are encouraged to apply. Girl Scouts - North Carolina Coastal Pines selects two honorees, one in middle school and one in the high school level each fall. Those selected will have their applications sent in so that they can go on to compete in the state level. If applications are chosen at the state level girls will receive $1,000, a silver medallion, and an all expense paid trip to Washington, DC with a parent or guardian. 2007 Honoree: Sindhu from Girl Scout Troop #1782 was awarded a Certificate of Excellence for her volunteer services community project. Sindhu's project, Beyond Boundaries, enhanced the global awareness of amon the underpriviledged children in India. She was honored at her service unit's award ceremony in the spring.
2006 Honoree: Alyssia Blalock was awarded a Certificate of Excellence for her Girl Scout Gold Award project. She held a five-day swimming class at a local YMCA for minority children ages 6-12, teaching basic fundamentals of swimming and helping to improve stroke and technique skills. Alyssia was among the top 10% of all applicants in North Carolina.
